it’s almost race time

I apologize for the lack of updates– A Pretty Pickle has had to take a hiatus while I’ve been trying to keep up with my middle school students (they are crazy now that the weather is warm) as well preparing to run the Kentucky Derby Festival’s Mini-Marathon this weekend!  This will be my first time ever doing this, so it’s a pretty exciting experience for me.  I will resume picture taking adventures and exciting grocery store reporting shortly.

Until then, look at these photos of a human running and a horse running by Edward Muybridge, taken in the late 1800s.  Muybridge was the first person to use photography to freeze rapid action for analysis and study.  His work ultimately led to the creation of filmmaking and motion pictures.  They’re still pretty amazing:

Great photos. Watching the runners coming in for the mini is like watching a river climbing out of its banks and flash-flooding the city. Amazing that 12,000 people are willing to put up with all that training just for the satisfaction of being able to say, “I did it.” They’ll all tell you it was worth it, too.
