the ugliest building in louisville?

In my opinion, this neglected building is perhaps the ugliest building that I have ever seen in Louisville- and that’s saying a lot because I’m someone who is generally excited about decaying old buildings.

It’s an office building that is currently divided up into different retail stores and a credit union center.  The building is located directly across the street from the abandoned Showcase Cinemas complex on Bardstown Road.  When I explained that I was going to document this particular “ugly” building to my mother (who also deeply appreciates local history and architecture) she could clearly imagine the proud day that this very modern building would have been unveiled to a ’50s/’60s era Louisville.  It was probably a pretty cool design at the time.

I suppose I am now looking at this building in a different light.  Perhaps there could be a way to renovate and restore this building into something great.  Hey, it’s for sale!  So are the Cinemas!  Any takers?

If that building across from the old cinemas had some uniformity or decor standards for the windows and signage, it would improve manyfold.

Not even close to the ugliest! That honour goes to the new Republic Plaza. They took a simple almost-Bauhaus structure and turned it into a cheesy-looking monument to bad taste and loan-sharkery.

I’m with Ricky on this. Losing the window A/C units would help too.

I don’t know, I think it has a certain Soviet Bloc charm to it. All it needs is a couple of Trabants parked out front.

Yes it is! How old is this building ? Has to date back 30+ years NO A/C?

a little color and it could be ok. along with mr irvine’s proposal, of course.

i’ve seen a cementitious coating applied to aggregate panels like these, making them smooth, modern, and any color you want. could be great!
