cool grocery store alert #12


Millenium Market, an African Foods Market is located at 4010 Bardstown Road, in the Buechel area.  I bought ingredients to make Banga, a traditional West African Soup: canned palm fruit, maggi cubes, and bitter leaves.  I will substitute various tofus and tempehs for the meats in the recipe for a vegetarian version and post a recipe and photos soon.  I also bought Fufu flour, which is used to make a doughy-bread that you dip into the soup.

    Where are all these ethnic grocery stores coming from? Who is patronizing them (other than you)? Does Louisville really have such a large recent immigrant population? I wonder how many and from where? Each of the different stores you’ve visited seems to offer something unique, bringing the world to our feet, so to speak. Love the photography.
